Benefits of Hibiscus Flower For Hair

Boost Hair Growth

You must have heard about hair growth oil. But do you know, hibiscus flowers also help in making hair longer. The naturally occurring amino acids in hibiscus flowers provide nutrients to the hair, which helps in promoting hair growth. These amino acids produce a special type of structural protein called keratin, which is the building block of hair. Keratin binds the hair making it less prone to breakage. It also promotes the overall thickness of the hair strands and makes hair more manageable. So, instead of turning to expensive keratin treatments that damage hair, you can start using hibiscus on your hair.

Condition The Hair

The chemicals in most shampoos strip the hair of its natural oils. Have you noticed that your hair is becoming dry and lifeless? Don’t worry, you can use hibiscus to nourish your hair and seal in its natural moisture! The flowers and leaves of hibiscus contain high amounts of mucilage, which acts as a natural conditioner. It is because of this naturally occurring conditioner that crushed hibiscus flowers and leaves leave a sticky feeling to the touch.

Prevents Premature Graying of Hair

In today’s lifestyle, hair turns white very quickly. Traditionally, hibiscus was used as a natural dye to mask gray hair. The antioxidants and vitamins present in hibiscus help in the production of melanin, a naturally occurring pigment that gives hair its natural colour.

Treat Dandruff and itchy Scalp

Is your scalp excessively oily, causing problems like dandruff and itchy scalp? Hibiscus acts as an astringent and reduces the secretion of oil by the glands. Using hibiscus leaves for hair maintains the pH balance of the hair apart from providing an overall soothing and cooling effect.

Prevent Baldness

Several research papers have been published after studying the use of hibiscus extract to treat baldness. All these studies suggest that using hibiscus is a safe way to regrow hair. The use of hibiscus is as effective as the drugs used to treat baldness (minoxidil and finasteride). Apart from being equally effective, hibiscus does not seem to cause any harmful side effects associated with these medicine.

You can use this on your hair thrice a week to provide deep nourishment and improve blood circulation. You do not have to do much to make this, just take about 8 hibiscus flowers and 8 hibiscus leaves and grind them finely. Heat a cup of coconut oil and mix it. Let the mixture heat together and then keep it aside to cool. Your hibiscus oil is ready to use. Massage your scalp with this for about 10 minutes and leave it for about 30 minutes for best results. After that wash your hair and scalp with shampoo. You can also store the leftover hibiscus oil for future use.

Hibiscus Hair Mask

A hair mask can be made using hibiscus with amla powder. To make this mask, mix hibiscus powder and amla powder in equal quantity of water and make a smooth paste. Now apply it all over your hair and scalp. Leave it for 40 minutes and then wash off with a mild shampoo. This mask will strengthen your hair follicles and help maintain scalp health. It also conditions the hair. Hibiscus along with amla also helps in preventing hair fall and split ends.

Hibiscus Conditioner

The amino acid (keratin) present in hibiscus makes it a great conditioner. Hibiscus nourishes the hair follicles, softens the hair and makes it more manageable. To reap the nourishing benefits of hibiscus for your hair, you can also use conditioners that contain hibiscus as a major ingredient. If you want to make your own hibiscus hair conditioner, all you have to do is crush about eight hibiscus flowers in water and make a paste. Apply this paste on your scalp and hair. Leave it for an hour and then wash it off with lukewarm water. This simple conditioner works as a deep conditioning treatment.

Hibiscus Hair Pack

You can also make a hair pack out of hibiscus flower. Especially if your hair is falling a lot, then a hair pack made from hibiscus flower can help you a lot in preventing hair fall. To make this, soak a spoonful of fenugreek seeds in water overnight. Grind these seeds with bunches of hibiscus leaves in the morning and make a fine paste.
