Tips to keep your Skin Safe from Chlorinated Water while Swimming

There is no doubt that swimming is a great exercise and it is also a very good activity for the summer season. It is common to use chlorine to prevent the growth of various types of bacteria and other germs in swimming pools and to keep the water clean, and this chlorine makes swimming very harmful in terms of skincare. In fact, chlorine damages the top layer of the skin, called sebum, and leaves the skin dry and flaky. In such a situation, by taking care of some things, the swimming pool can be fully enjoyed and they do not even harm the skin.

1. Moisturize

Always moisturize the body thoroughly before entering the swimming pool. By doing this the skin does not become dry due to chlorine. Chlorine and bleach present in water can also cause skin problems such as eczema in people with sensitive skin.

For this use a swimming special body lotion or you can use olive, coconut or any baby oil as the oil forms a protective layer between the water and the skin.

2. Shower First

Take a shower before getting into the water. This is because chlorine is not rapidly absorbed by wet skin. Without taking a shower, the chlorine in the skin gets absorbed very fast and deep by entering the water. Taking a shower after leaving the pool cleans the pool water and chlorine on the body.

3. Vitamin C

Always include vitamin C rich foods in your diet and products containing vitamin C in skin care. Vitamin C protects the skin from damage caused by ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B that come with the sun’s rays. Apart from this, vitamin C also keeps the skin safe from sun tanning. It reduces the activity of an enzyme called tyrosinase and this enzyme is responsible for the production of melanin in the body.

4. Sunscreen

If you are in the mood for swimming, do not forget to use sunscreen. Apply sunscreen 15 to 20 minutes before going swimming and reapply sunscreen every two hours.

5. Lip Balm

Make sure to apply lip balm on the lips before entering the swimming pool. After staying in water for a long time, the lips start bursting with chlorinated water and they also start bleeding.

6. Stay Hydrated

Always keep the water intake sufficient. If the body is well hydrated, then the toxins are easily flushed from the skin.

7. Exfoliate Skin

Regular swimmers must do exfoliation as they remove the dead skin cells and get rid of the damaged skin.
