Keratosis Pilaris or Chicken Skin is a very common skin condition and is found in both women and men. Mainly it occurs on the upper arm, Thai, cheek and lower back etc. They look like hair, but more than that, they look like rough skin patches, which are neither painful nor itchy, but still no one likes this type of skin.
This happens when the naturally occurring keratin protein in our skin blocks the skin, due to which the hair follicles are unable to open and give the skin a bumpy texture. While others can easily flaunt their skin, keratosis pilaris can lower your confidence. Although, you can blame your genes or lifestyle for this, but still no panacea treatment has been found in any study. However, nonetheless these 3 methods can definitely help in giving some relief to your skin from looking bumpy.
3 Easy Ways to Get Rid of Chicken Skin or Keratosis Pilaris
Exfoliate
The chances of getting KP on your skin increase due to pollutants like dust, soil and dead skin cells. That’s why we recommend that you shower daily and exfoliate your skin at least once a week. For this, you can use a body scrub and scrub it gently on your skin and do not scratch your KP bump while doing so. You can also use a cleanser containing 2% salicylic acid, as it helps to open up clogged pores. Take care of yourself and wear clean clothes and change your clothes after shower or workout so that your skin condition does not worsen.
Moisturize
Make sure to apply a hydrating moisturizer to your skin after bathing and apply it at least twice a day. Avoid using skin care products containing sodium lauryl or sulfate etc. as they can irritate your skin. Use a moisturizer containing lanolin, petroleum jelly and glycerin as these help to soothe your skin.
Coconut Oil Massage
If you do not like that people call you chicken skin or strawberry skin, then oil cleansing can be very useful for you. Coconut oil helps in removing the dust and dirt present on your skin and keeps the skin healthy. The lauric acid present in coconut oil has antibacterial properties, which helps in getting rid of keratosis pilaris.
