About Angry Birds 2
Angry Birds 2 is the sequel to the slingshot game that became one of the best-known mobile titles in the world. As in the original, you launch birds from a slingshot to knock down structures and defeat pigs. The sequel builds on that idea with more detailed graphics, multi-stage levels and a way to choose which bird to fire next. The result is a game that still feels familiar but gives you more decisions in each round.
How the gameplay works
You pull back the slingshot to set the angle and power, then release. The trajectory is shown with a dotted line. Each bird has a special ability that you activate by tapping while it is in the air. Some split into several birds, some speed up and one drops an egg-shaped bomb. Structures are made of wood, glass and stone, and each bird is better against particular materials. Choosing the right bird for the right material is the key to efficient play.
Levels, rooms and cards
Levels are divided into several stages, called rooms. If you clear one room, you move to the next, and you continue to use birds from the same set. A card system lets you choose which bird to launch next, and extra bird cards can be earned or used for a second chance. Spells, such as a spell that drops heavy objects, are available as one-time helpers. Destroying more objects increases a gauge that gives you a bonus bird or spell.
Daily play and community
The game has daily events, tournaments and clan features, where you play with others for rewards. These are optional.
Tips for better results
Study the structure before shooting. Look for weak points, such as a glass piece supporting a heavy block. Aim at the elements that will cause collapse and not only at the pigs. Use bird abilities at the right moment, not too early. Save spells for hard rooms. Try to leave cards that suit the next room. If you fail a level, repeat it and change the order of birds. Do not worry about earning the highest score on every level, since three stars are optional.
Lives, purchases and ads
Angry Birds 2 is free to download, with a limited number of lives or hearts that refill over time and optional purchases for gems and extras. Advertising may appear, and you may be offered rewards for watching it. These systems can change, so check the store listing. If children play, set up purchase controls on the device and discuss spending limits.
Age suitability
The tone is humorous. The birds and pigs are cartoon characters, and there is no blood or realistic violence. Because it includes online features and purchases, parents should supervise younger players.
Who it suits
It suits fans of physics puzzles and anyone who enjoyed the original game. It also works well for families. Players who dislike energy limits or want a one-time purchase may find the structure restrictive.
How it compares
Compared with the first Angry Birds, it is more elaborate and more tactical. Compared with Bad Piggies, it focuses on aiming and destruction instead of building.
Our take
Angry Birds 2 is a polished and lively sequel.
